2016 has gotten off to a bang here at Ad Hoc! We’ve welcomed new Guardians, added some interesting properties to our growing list and we’ve even been in the news and on TV a few times!

Guardian Jacqueline McIntyre Campbell (our Guardian Ambassador for this edition) was interviewed by The Herald Scotland on why she thinks more people over the border are becoming Guardians. Jacqueline has been able to start her own business due to the savings she has made as a Guardian. To read the interview, click here.

Our Northampton Guardians also made a newspaper appearance earlier this month. Currently living in a former care home, the Guardians were asked why living in unusual buildings is so appealing. Find out about their story here.

The first of our TV appearances was for ITV Anglia. Guardian’s Jacqui and Elizabeth were interviewed along with Area Manager Sarah Reid on what it’s like to be a Guardian, why more people are looking for affordable living and what the benefits are.

f2eca999-464a-4121-b13c-22e9a098fe0f_625x352The second took place on the 13th January; Managing Director Simon Finneran and Guardian Kevin Harris (you may remember him from the last edition of Lifestylers) were interviewed on London Live following the first episode of the new Channel 4 comedy Crashing. If you missed the interview, you can watch it here.

Crashing is the newest addition to Channel 4’s growing comedy offering, written by and starring up and coming comedian and play write Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The six part comedy is based around the lives of six twenty-something Property Guardians living in a disused London hospital.

While the programme has been greeted with mixed reviews there has been one collective response: “What is a Property Guardian and how can I be one?”

If you were a fan of Drifters (also written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge) Fresh Meat or The Young Ones, this tongue in cheek, no holes barred comedy will surely tickle your ribs. Catch up with the series so far on the Channel 4 website.

That’s not all! Each week, we’ll be live Tweeting the episodes from 10pm as they air on Channel 4. You can get involved by using #Crashing and following @AdHocGuardians to let us know what you think!

Some other interesting news articles have come to our attention recently, the majority looking at how the property market is set to shape up in 2016. If you’re among the many Ad Hoc Guardians saving for a deposit, this article from The Guardian will give you a little insight into what changes may be afoot, including house prices and market predictions. We came across this article from Buzzfeed giving us some great ideas for things to do on a day out in London for under £10. For example, you can enjoy a cream tea, climb a famous monument or even come face-to-face with the image of Henry VIII!

Finally, we’ve launched our Ad Hoc Guardian Handbook! This handy document is full to the brim with information and guidance on how to make the most of your Guardian experience.
