Preserving culture: Books to Buddha

Southwark Council, Bermondsey Old Library

Background

Bermondsey Library built in 1892, is now a branch of the Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland. It is part of a splendid Victorian complex boasting marble adorned properties in Spa Road, with other municipal buildings now converted to prestige lofts and apartments.

Challenge

To provide real cost savings and slash the security budget of round the clock security weighing in at a daunting weekly bill of £7,000.

Solution

Deployment of Ad Hoc Guardians into the grand library – rather than physical and electronic protection measures, ensured the security of the building was never compromised and a successful sale was achieved.
